Cladding provides a “weathertight exterior envelope” for your home. There is a variety of home cladding options to suit your design aesthetic. These include timber and weatherboard, natural stone, fibre cement, brick, metal and concrete.

Leaky Homes

A leaky home means the home is not fully water-tight. This occurs when the structure gets moisture in between the exterior cladding and the internal walls. Leaky homes have the potential to cause structural problems and can lead to health issues due to mould and spores that develop within the damp timber framing.

Often signs of a leaky home aren’t obvious. Many show no signs of moisture-related issues or leaks until the damage is substantial.

Houses that have been built in a Mediterranean style using monolithic plaster cladding systems are often identified as having a high risk of leaking. These homes were typically constructed between the 1980s to the mid-2000s. The Building Act was amended in 2004, so any plaster homes built before then should be checked for moisture-related issues and leaks. If you own or are looking to purchase one of these homes, we advise calling Davy Construction and we can inspect the home thoroughly.
